Founded in 1983, Gana Art was one of the first major art galleries established in Korea. We have played an integral role in the rapidly growing art market in Korea for the past 30 years and we remain one of Korea’s most prestigious and influential art institutions today.
Gana Art is primarily a contemporary art gallery. Yet, we have curated exhibitions covering a wide range of genres including modern, contemporary, and various art scenes from established to emerging Korean and international artists. We presented to the Korean audience modern and contemporary artists from abroad, including Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall, Joel Shapiro, Richard Pettibone, Mark Quinn, Ron Arad, and Lionel Estève.
As Dansaekhwa (Korean monochrome painting) and Minjung Art (Art that appeared from the democratization movement in the 80s) are currently surfacing overseas, Gana Art has promoted Korean artists to museums and galleries worldwide.
In particular, to expand the base of photographic scene in Korea, Gana Art has hosted the annual Photo Festival from 2001 to 2010, showing works of Andreas Gursky, Thomas Ruff, Candida Höfer, Thomas Struth, Hiroshi Sugimoto, and Chinese photographers such as Miao Xiaochun and Li Wei.
Gana Art also organized public art projects, that is, suggesting outdoor sculptures, arranging installation works and curating media canvas projects to museums, resorts and major buildings, creating a platform to lead cultural business. Gana Art continues to develop and make efforts to propose a desirable direction in the global art market.
