D. Wigmore Fine Art, Inc. was established in 1980 to specialize in the major historic styles of American Art. The gallery owns an extensive inventory of 19th- and 20th-century paintings. The current focus of our acquisitions, exhibitions, and sales is on historical styles of realism and abstraction from the 1930s to the 1970s. This includes both Realism of the American Scene and Geometric Abstraction of the 1930s and 1940s, with the gallery representing the Estates of Doris Lee (1905–1983), George Biddle (1885–1973), Charles Green Shaw (1892–1974), and Esphyr Slobodkina (1908–2002). This also includes Abstract Expressionism (1946–1960), Op Art (1960–1980), and Californian Hard Edge (1960–1980). Our Post-War Focus features Paul Jenkins, Richard Anuszkiewicz, Tadasky (Tadasuke Kuwayama), Mon Levinson, and Ernst Benkert and Francis Hewitt of the Anonima Group. In each of these movements, D. Wigmore Fine Art looks for classic examples from the best periods of well-known artists.
In each focus, we make every effort to select paintings, works on paper, and sculpture that are in excellent condition and from each artist’s best period. Both time and money are spent on necessary repairs to both art and frames, using well-recognized specialists for the work. D. Wigmore Fine Art strives for a high level of professionalism, and our staff enjoys sharing its love and knowledge of art. D. Wigmore Fine Art serves both private and museum clients. We provide exhibitions and information, which create a historical context for artists and their art, and we follow up with clients as more information on an artist that interests them becomes available. The gallery works with scholars to facilitate their research and to make possible connections to our clients for information regarding reproduction and/or exhibition of works in their collections. Our goal is to help clients create meaningful collections of American Art.
