New York-based Contemporary visual artist
Matt Mullican (American, b.1951) is best known for his exploration of the subjective experience through the intersection of communal signage with personal semiotics. In order to produce these characteristically abstract, geometric forms, Mullican utilizes a combination of separate media including, drawing, painting, sculpture, and more recently, video, electronic media, and installation. Mullican attended the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, CA in 1974, and currently exhibits extensively all over the world, with his most recent solo shows being held at the
Mai 36 Galerie in Zurich, Switzerland, Galerie Micheline Szwajcer in Antwerp, Belgium; Helga Maria Klosterfelde in Berlin, Germany; and Tracy Williams, Ltd., in New York, NY. Mullican currently lives and works in New York City, where he continues to develop his unique contemporary idiom.
