François Avril, magazine and advertising illustrator, cartoonist and children's book illustrator, this Parisian artist, born in 1961, is a veritable master of clean lines, weightless forms and poetic colour.
Drawn over time from his notebooks and vignettes, most of them remained in the secrecy of his studio and were never published or exhibited.
Indoor landscapes, sea scenes and urban representations are brought together here. These beautiful sheets reflect the diversity of language used by the artist to renew his subjects. Sometimes a thin black pen runs across the white paper, sometimes coloured pencils are thrown into the pages of a notebook, and sometimes the frenetic rhythm of a Bic pen scratches the paper with almost automatic writing.
Created between 2007 and the present day, this collection of around one hundred drawings offers a wonderful journey through a rare body of work.
