LO SGUARDO – Humanitas - Physis

 From March 26th until October 31st, 2025, in Sicily, the largest sculptural exhibition by Igor Mitoraj will be open to the public en plain air, entitled “LO SGUARDO – Humanitas - Physis.” A great and unprecedented project that includes the exhibition of thirty monumental works by the artist of Polish origin in the evocative spaces of the Archaeological area Neapolis of Syracuse, enriched thanks to the presence of two impressive sculptures located in Ortigia (Syracuse) and the Etna Park. The exhibition will be open from March 26th from 8.30 am to 6.30 pm, (the ticket office closes at 5.00 pm) until March 31st; the new summer hours will be announced in the forthcoming months. For the first time with a single entrance ticket of 13 Euros, it will be possible to visit the archaeological area and admire the works of Mitoraj in such an iconic and historical place, unique in the world. The exhibition is promoted by the Archaeological Park of Syracuse Eloro Villa del Tellaro and Akrai, produced by Atelier Mitoraj, in collaboration with Mediatica and Tate, with the patronage of the Sicilian Region, Department of Cultural Heritage and Sicilian Identity, Department of the territory and environment, in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture, with the Park of Etna, with the forest state with the Municipality of Ragalna and with the Municipality of Syracuse. Thanks to long and laborious transport and complex installation work, coordinated by Luca Pizzi of Atelier Mitoraj, the citizens and tourists will be able to live an experience of knowledge and reflection even in front of the winged sculpture “Ikaria” by Igor Mitoraj, looking towards the sea in the public space in front of the Maniace Castle, in Ortigia. The sculpture "Teseo Screpolato", instead, was placed on the south-east side of Etna, at 1700 meters above sea level, set in a wide view that ranges from the top of the volcano to the Jonion sea near the entrance to the area of the Serra La Nave. These two installations compose and complete the contents of the exhibition and its itinerary, which finds its epicenter in the archaeological area Neapolis, symbol of Greek and Roman culture, so relevant to the history and development of civilization. On April 16th, at the archaeological area will take place the inaugural event preceded by a press conference in which the objectives, contents, and characteristics will be illustrated in detail of this great project of international value.
