Founded by Raimund Thomas in 1964, Galerie Thomas is now an internationally leading broker of German Expressionist and Classical Modern Art.
It focuses on the “Blaue Reiter”, “Brücke” and “Bauhaus” artists, such as Wassily Kandinsky, Alexej Jawlensky, August Macke, Franz Marc, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Otto Mueller, Karl Schmidt-Rottluff, Emil Nolde, Lyonel Feininger, Oskar Schlemmer and Paul Klee. The gallery’s activities in the field of Classical Modernism are impressively demonstrated by works ranging from Max Beckmann, Pablo Picasso, Edvard Munch, Fernand Léger through to Jean Dubuffet and Serge Poliakoff, among others. From Maastricht, via Basel and Paris, to New York and Miami, Galerie Thomas is represented at the most important national and international art fairs throughout the year.
There is a long tradition connecting the gallery to the Cologne trade fair hub, as Raimund Thomas was among the founders of the art market there in 1967, at what is now Art Cologne. Besides its traditional trade fair participation, the gallery also shows its pioneering spirit with appearances at new locations, such as Madrid and Chicago, Shanghai, Dubai and Hong Kong.
This has allowed us to contribute to creating high-quality art collections and develop a friendly relationship with many collectors, museums and other institutions in Germany and abroad, and win their trust. Our customers seek our advice when selling and purchasing art works, and make use of our international contacts and our professional insight into the art market.
Silke Thomas and Raimund Thomas manage the gallery together with Joerg Paal, the director of Galerie Thomas.
