On the occasion of its 15th participation in DesignMiami/, Galerie Patrick Seguin presents some iconic creations by leading 20th century artists of design and decorative arts, viz. Jean Prouvé, Pierre Jeanneret, Charlotte Perrland, Le Corbusier and Jean Royère.
With a layout conveying the spirit of their creator, the Gallery presents a very fine selection of furniture and luminaires by Jean Royère, notably a very elegant Ski floorstanding uplight, a Val d’Or coffee table with graphic lines, a rare and delicate brass shelf, each bearing witness to their author’s great creativity and to a universe full of elegance and poetry.
Conversely, being concerned with coherence between form and function, and wishing to exclude any superfluous detail, Jean Prouvé, Charlotte Perriand, Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret gave birth to modern furniture and architecture, anticipating the new ways of life which became widespread as the 1950s approached. Thus the pure lines of the cabinet topped by a small luminous hanger arm by Jean Prouvé, or of Charlotte Perriand‘s wall shelf and Tokyo bench, exemplify this new spirit through their elegant simplicity. In the same manner, the furniture created by Pierre Jeanneret for Chandigarh, such as the elegant Sofa set or the imposing library table, or again this very rare copy of Le Corbusier‘s Diabolo floorstanding uplight , testifies to the constant modernity of these creations.
