Mark Marchesi was born and raised in Rye, NY and moved to Maine in 1995 to attend college. In 1999 he graduated from Maine College of Art with a BFA degree in Photography and immediately took a job for a small shellfish and bait wholesaler on the Portland waterfront. After a summer of hard labor, Mark bought a vehicle and embarked on the first of a series of extended road trips around North America. Commercial fishing and other trades proved to be a quick way of making enough money to reach the next destination, but periodically returning to the Northeast to be near loved ones brought him to the conclusion that this region has always been home. During his travels and while at home, Mark has compiled an extensive portfolio of images and documentary video. His photographs have been exhibited in-group shows in New York, Florida, Oregon, and Maine, and his documentary short about lobster boat racing won an excellence award at the Berkeley Film and Video Festival in California. Today, Mark has settled in Maine and is still feverishly making images while awaiting the birth of his first child in June 2005.
