One of the most esteemed painters of Utah, Vivian Douglas Snow was born in Salt Lake City in 1927, and now resides in Teasdale. From 1943 to 1945, he studied theater at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, In 1946, he pursued art studies at Columbia University and the American Art School in New York City, before attending the Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Snow received Bachelor of Fine Arts and Master of Fine Arts degrees there in 1949 and 1950 then spent a year as a Fulbright scholar at the Academy of Fine Art in Rome. Snow taught at the Flint Institute of Art, Michigan; Stanford University, California; and Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan, before joining the faculty of the University of Utah from 1954 to 1990. Snow is also an accomplished draftsman, figure painter, muralist, book illustrator, and playwright
