Galerie Kremers is pleased to invite you to the next solo exhibition of Gregor Hiltner.

Boats, especially boats of fools, are among the artist's leitmotifs. This is not surprising, as he can use them to display the themes that occupy him throughout his life: Travel and departure to other worlds, and man's being at the mercy of hostile elements. This existential being-thrown-into-the-world and the resulting insecurity are Hiltner's central themes, as well as the short-sighted and often absurd handling of this situation, which he observes in himself and his fellow travelers.

Religion often sails along on these ships as the final authority of appeal that is ultimately supposed to fix everything. Either the supreme helmsman himself is on board - e.g., as a crucified goat deity as in "Our Ship of Fools with Holy Nuclear Family" or he watches the scene from above, somewhat bored, as in "Above the Almighty in his Trinity, below us fools on our ship......".

Hiltner understands our world as a boat of fools on which we sail unflinchingly toward our doom.

We look forward to a variety of often very large-scale paintings and drawings from different creative periods and techniques, including brand new works.
