The starting point of Bernd Klüser’s gallery and publishing activity was the close co-operation with Joseph Beuys. In 1970 first print and mulitples editions by the artist were published together with Jörg Schellmann. “Edition Schellmann & Klüser”, a company that existed until 1985, initiated numerous exhibitions, significant art projects and publications, like the Catalogue Raisonnée of Joseph Beuys (Mulitiples), the prints of Andy Warhol, Cy Twombly and others.
In 1978 Bernd Klüser founded his own gallery in Munich. “Galerie Bernd Klüser” organized early shows by promising artists, such as Tony Cragg, Alex Katz, Sean Scully or Cindy Sherman who later attained international recognition in the art world. Also key members of the Transavantguardia, which was at its peak during this time, formed an important part of the gallery programme. Besides, Bernd Klüser continued to work closely with Joseph Beuys and Andy Warhol. Series like “Details of Rennaissance Paintings” or the Lenin Portraits emerged at that time.
Until today Galerie Klüser has been a platform for contemporary art. The gallery represents internationally renowned artists such as Tony Cragg, Jan Fabre, Alex Katz or Olaf Metzel among others.
In 2001 Bernd Klüser’s daughter Julia Klüser joined the gallery as a second-generation family member. In this context the gallery’s name was changed into “Galerie Klüser”. Julia Klüser encouraged the expansion of the gallery by opening a second exhibition space in 2002. “Galerie Klüser 2” does not only feature young artists like Jorinde Voigt or Natalia Załuska but also serves as an additional exhibition space for extensive major shows.
