Women of (New) Abstract Painting Charline von Heyl, Jacqueline Humphries, Tomma Abts

Charline von Heyl talks about "our slapstick eternal now," and adds, "I like obliterating things." Jacqueline Humphries says, "If destablization isn't your content, it's at least something that's always present." Tomma Abts says, "I'm not interested in translating something onto the canvas." Etchings by three women painters exploring instability and abstraction will be exhibited at the Crown Point Press booth (B13) at the ADAA: The Art Show.

The medium of etching is suited to the experimentation these three artists value in approaching their art, and each of them has embraced the hands-on character of the medium. Etching, unlike painting, allows artists to "have their cake and eat it too" in that an image can be seen in different colors and different contexts, layered with other images, or subtly remade without obliterating it. The works in this exhibition are colorful, inventive, and clearly responsive to the hands of the artists who made them.
