Clintel Steed has won numerous awards for his paintings depicting city scenes, catastrophic events and political money scenarios. His most recent award was at the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 2015. On a spiritual journey with his family to the isle of Puerto Rico, Steed created drawings of his spellbinding trip; these drawings were later translated into paintings from his inspiration of viewing works by Frank Auerbach. Steed's understanding of Auerbach's artistic process inspired him to re-invent his works to deliver a strong and powerful presentation. The drawings left him with no limitation (I think you mean limits), so the drawing had to be strong to re-create this series of paintings in his studio. Within these works the viewer has and idea of his strengths; they are vibrant, saturated with an artistry that are visually and emotionally moving.

Bryan Collins is a local artist born in Englewood, New Jersey and educated in New York City. His recent work is the final chapter of a decade long odyssey for spiritual origin. An artist residency at Cooper Union was the embarkation point that culminated in his 2009 Exhibition “Bloom”. The title was taken from the protagonist of James Joyce’s novel Ulysses. Upon completion of the suite of watercolor paintings, the artist found that the work was turning inward. It was later during continued studies at the New York Studio School that the Collins had two formative experiences. The first was an abstract sculptural problem. Here the question of the anagram came to light. The next an essay from a magazine was given to the artist, “Writing an autobiography in the age of narcissism”.
The present work is in a photorealistic style using an oil and mixed media technique. The paintings are a series of self portraits based on The Nine Personality Types. Thematically each painting focuses on the obsession of each personality. The work as a whole is a two-part endeavor. The search for the image through photography and the revelation of its meaning by the act of painting. The author with tongue in cheek believes that a man for all seasons is his answer to the sphinx.
