Description
Neon acrylic paint, hand-made snow-globes and glitter come together in 'Trilogical Towers '(1992), Bertlmann’s visual representation of her trilogy 'Pornography', 'Utopia' and 'Irony'. The work, made using the artist’s signature colours of pink, yellow and blue, can be considered a celebration of the artist’s reformulation of the Trinity. Here, pop votive candles are illuminated by painted illustrations of the penis, the vagina, and a symbol of a heart.
In the artist’s practice, the trilogy embodies Bertlmann’s manifesto statement ‘AMO ERGO SUM’, which most recently appeared adorning the entrance of the artist’s solo exhibition at the Austrian Pavilion at the 58th Venice Biennale.
