This lithograph was made to be sold for the benefit of a charity organization protecting the Ainu of Sapporo. The son of a bourgeois, Jean-Louis had indeed visited Japan to receive a prize on behalf of his mother. He learned on the spot the sad fate of this indigenous Japanese people. One of these lithographs is kept in the collections of the MOMA, in New York.
