"Beginning" is an intriguing glass sculpture by Czech artist Josef Marek that surprises by its apparent simplicity, yet elicits wonder at its gravity-defying stance. The outside surfaces of the glass sculpture are polished and smooth, while the inner surfaces exhibit a rich texturing using a new interpretation on the ancient technique of glue-chipping, or tarnishing, adding to the illusionist effect.
